Revving Up the Good Luck Machine

Finally feels like I'm in good alignment and truckin' on down the road.

But as a result, I haven't been blogging.  I'm still writing, just not here.  I've written a couple articles for a site called "Quiet Mike".  It's a liberal politics opinion/news site that just happens to be named after me, so it's a pretty good fit.  The site's primary writer/editor is named Mike, too.  Please check it out.

I have another job interview, this time with the County of Santa Clara, working in Park Services.  I came out #2 on the placement exam, so that felt good.  I'm hoping I can snag the job and begin working full time again.  Please root for me.

I've also got a garden going this year, and I'm transforming my landscape into a food-producing space instead of a labor-intensive, cost repressive lawn that we try hard to make look "nice" like everybody else in the neighborhood.  In the last eight months, I've planted strawberries, blueberries, garlic, a "fruit salad" tree (a nectarine, apricot, and plum tree grafted together into one tree), some blackberries, spearmint, and a bunch of tomatoes.  There's hope for a new tomorrow for ya.

The artichoke I planted over a year and a half ago has survived the snail onslaught and finally has an artichoke on it.  And many of the nasturtiums that I planted last year have come back on their own.

We also had awesome poppies this year, and some of the tulips I planted two years ago came back nicely this spring.  Oh yeah-- and I planted a hydrangea for my sweetheart.  It's one of her favorite flowers.

I took some photos of the blooms and they turned out nice.  I can turn those into gifts or silent auction prizes for Relay, perhaps.  I had some canvases printed from a couple images through Canvas For Life, we'll see how they turn out.

Meanwhile, I'm awaiting my first paycheck in many months from my new proctoring job.  I haven't been scheduled since my last training, so I wonder if there's a problem or just a lull before the kids get out of school.  I'm trying not to take it personally.

So there's progress being made.  My mood has been pretty stable, and I've been very functional and managing well.  I was sad to learn that my doctor will be leaving Kaiser in July and I will have to adjust to somebody new.  I kind of teared up a couple times-- he's been very good for me, and I've made much better progress with him than I did with the others before him.  So I'm not excited to see him go, but who knows?  Maybe I'll get a super hot goddess doctor who will not only cure me but...  well, let's not go there.  I hope to continue my good health, whomever I end up working with.

So this engine is spinnin' like a top these days.  Let's hope I can keep the fuel mixture sweet and the pistons a-chuggin'.
